All I Ask For is A Good Service PDF Print E-mail

Dear Noel,

I’ve played as a frustrated wing-forward all my life, but this year the new club manager is using me at full-forward. This is the break I need. I’m a good reader of the game. I’ve got pace, and countless ways of losing my man as a move develops out the field.

The problem, though, is that in the three challenges we’ve played, the supply of ball has been poor. I’ve only received one pass with the O’Neills writing on the ball facing up into my chest. I’ve told the lads out around the middle that I can’t be expected to get the scores we need without a proper service. I’ve also specified that I want a hopping ball, just a few yards to my left, but that hasn’t really happened either.Should I apply for a transfer?

Getting A Fair Crack of the Scor Whip PDF Print E-mail

Dear Noel,

Last week, at the Divisional Scor na nOg finals, a half-innocent young country lad was asked “Who was shot in Dallas in…” Before the quizmaster finished the question, he dived in with: “JR Ewing.”The whole place erupted into laughter. The young lad was mortified. He didn’t know what way to look. The quizmaster said the correct answer was John F Kennedy. Should the young lad have got the two points? I hate to see a miscarriage of justice.

While I’m at it, we’re getting together our team for the Senior Scor Ballad Group.

There’s a Romanian woman working in the local newsagents. She’s always humming a tune and has a lovely chime to her voice. Think could she learn Baidin Fheilimi in three weeks? She’s very little English. - Des, East Westmeath.

Our Bull-In-A-China-Shop is Causing Me Problems PDF Print E-mail

Active Image Dear Noel,

There’s a lad in our club who just won’t stay away from training. He’s 46 now, and he couldn’t make the juniors the best day ever he stood. But he’s a fitness fanatic and strong as an ox.He runs marathons and triathlons and anything else he can get his hands on.

The problem is he’s like a bull in a china shop at training. Last year, he milled our tidy corner-forward out of it in a hand-passing game the week before the first round of the championship.

Left him with a broken jaw, a punctured lung, and three missing teeth. They were actually playing together in a two-man full-forward line in the hand-passing game at the time.

I ran him that night, and a few nights since, but he hovers like a rejected wolf and sneaks back into the nine-a-sides, which will rapidly become six-a-sides if I don’t do something. Should I talk to his mother? His name is Francis.

The Show Must Go On PDF Print E-mail

Dear Noel,

I am the chairman of a junior club in Wicklow. The cost of running the club is rising every year. Our weekly Lotto is dying on its feet as we can’t get anyone to sell tickets – everyone is too busy these days to give anything back to the Association. We badly need to improve our home gates to keep the club afloat.

Have you any suggestions?

Can We Strike Back With An Umpire? PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Knowledgeable Noel Corporation

Dear Noel,
Recently, our long-serving No. 1 club umpire died after 45 years service. He’s a huge loss. He was directly responsible for two of our four county titles in the1970s, though he never pulled on a pair of boots.
As chairman of the club, my phone’s ringing off the hook with suggestions as to who should replace him. This is the club’s biggest decision in years.
I’ve stood at the back of Mass for the last few weeks, scouring for potential candidates with no luck. This exhaustive search is taking too much out of me…please help.
Margo Fan, North Leitrim.
