Christy, Mid-Clare – “I know, Christy, it’s a tough one alright for a club chairman. I suppose the lesson to be learned here is that the next time you propose a vote of sympathy to the family of a local man who was involved on the periphery of the club before his untimely death, make sure you have enough of your own people primed to back you up. I wouldn’t resign though. I’ve seen chairmen come back from worse.”
Martin, West Co. Meath – “Your hunch is right, Martin, stamp it out immediately. Social networking has no place in the GAA. Do you think Liam Harnan would bother with a Bebo page? If parents complain, tell them the strength of the GAA is the innate modesty and humility of all its members. No-one gets above their station. I’ve a website myself, but reluctantly. This crowd here insist on it.”
Mike, Mid-Monaghan – “I’d be dead set against it, Mike. Narrowing the pitch will send out the wrong messages to your players. It will get them thinking that there’s always some excuse to hang onto. I’d go the other way entirely. Widen the pitch as far as you can.”
